Air Temperature Sensor

Just like your body, your car's engine needs air, too. Air is mixed with fuel for combustion, which gives the power necessary to run the car. The Air Temperature Sensorplays an important role in the production of the correct air-fuel ratio.

It's used in fuel-injected engines and is usually located in the intake manifold. Its tip is exposed to the air entering the engine bay. The sensor measures the density of the air that goes into your car's engine. The information is sent to the ECU, which instructs the system to use the correct amount of fuel and create a balanced air-fuel mixture.

If the Air Temperature Sensorbecomes defective, your car's engine won't produce the right air-fuel mix for the engine. As a result, your car's engine power is significantly lessened. You'll also notice a rise in fuel consumption, because the engine can't burn fuel as efficiently when the air-fuel ratio isn't correct.
