Moisture - it may be good for your skin, but it definitely isn't supposed to be in your car's lines and hoses, especially in the air-conditioning (A/C) system. That's what the A/C receiver drier is for. You may not know it, but moisture actually is present in air. Every time you get the A/C's refrigerant recharged, moisture gets a window of opportunity. As the lines are opened up to release the old refrigerant, vacuum builds up, sucking in air from the atmosphere. Along with air comes moisture, which can damage the A/C system. The A/C receiver drier is responsible for getting rid of that moisture. It contains a bag of desiccant that absorbs water. It can only do so much, though, and soon sludge builds up inside the lines and clogs the A/C system.
